Superposition and being transgender and or non-binary
There is an idea in Quantum physics called superposition. The idea is that any particle can be in many different states. The state could be DNE, state could be On, Off, and weirdly...both on and off.
Nobel prizes were given this year in physics for discoveries that pretty much affirm that this is happening in our universe.
Back when I was in college I remember taking a computer science course at the University of Oregon and the professor, who I really liked, was talking about Schrodinger's cat, which is a famous analogy of this very idea. The idea is.. there is a box and you can't see in the box. In the box there is cat, and either its alive, or its dead (I know a bit morbid), based on the state of a radioactive element in the box. BUT... you don't know, and the state of the cat as a consequence is undetermined, UNTIL you look. at that moment it resolves to one or the other.
Now... this is some pretty crazy stuff right? not really.
When I was a young C++ developer I wrote code (This was about 40 years ago) and created a class called a "Super Boolean" because some decisions aren't boolean, they are unknown, and in some cases they are both true and false. and other cases they are definitely true, or definitely false. To be real Its one of my more proud moments in writing code. It was simple, elegant and helped with solving of delaying some decisions that the code just couldn't make as a boolean decision.
So how does this all apply to transgender, and non-binary?
I was out for a walk yesterday and reflecting on my life and thinking about people in my life, some who abandoned me when I can out saying things like; 'well.. how can you be this?' or 'why now?', 'or you can't be that because x, or y' or 'you can't be a woman because you have male genitals'. sigh.... or the worst which came from a therapist "only a man and a woman can have a baby", which was their attempt at saying I couldn't be female and consequently the world is binary.
So all of these questions are binary if you think about what the person is really saying. The heart of it is a preconceived way of looking at the universe based on their limited experience with the universe. Let me see if I can break this down a little in why I think more than ever the world has more than two states of being.
First there is the "I didn't know what was wrong [with me]" This fits me to a tee. growing up if you have read all my blogs, you would know it was always there... A conflict in me that I couldn't resolve about myself. I just didn't have the language or ideas to resolve it into clarity. And this conflict ties into quantum physics. In a sense I was in an unknown state.
Second, life is not binary! yet because of our primitive (to this point) understanding of the universe we have harshly, and brutally, and ignorantly, tried to force life gender into a binary way of being. The Universe just doesn't work like that. AND if you observe nature..really observe, watch it, study it you will find nature is a spectrum of diversity! Its beautiful, scary, alien, familiar...all at once.
I suspect this idea of binary goes all the way back to a baby is born and the guy looks at the genitals and makes a LIFE decision...right then and there of what that persons life is going to be. @#%%% WOW! talk about the ultimate decision making.
If we look at science we have tried to apply binary to the universe as we have mathematically tried to describe it. Look at SINE and COSINE which has a max and a min so a 1 and a 0, and we built computers to be this way too. baby steps if you will in building complex machines. yet what about a circle? there are infinite points on it...or a sphere! now we are in perfect 3d space and if you look closely at nature... a bubble in water for example its always a spherical shape.. moons, stars, planets, all circles.. galaxies...spiral circles. Snow flakes are radial and grow in all directions. circular and spherical in shape
ok so let me rein this in with some positive energy and thoughts!
In my mind, life is like this, its a gift of natural wonder, life IS diverse, amazing and special and we should live our lives fully and fiercely in support and love of each other.
And...those that are non-binary, or transgender should be celebrated not feared. They are people, and wonderful in their uniqueness and beauty. They have dreams and desires, and their courage and self awareness should be recognized, supported, and allows to prosper unhindered.
